Due to large population growth in the municipality, the public swimming hall needed to be expanded and renovated. The original building from 1978, designed by Åke Östin was in need of modernization. The new extension we designed forms its own distinct volume that turns its gaze to the west with a panoramic view of the sport’s field. This new volume is inscribed by two parallel timber clad walls, that spring from the rough wood-plank formwork of the concrete foundation. The building seems to rise from the granite rock on the site, in the meeting between the original building above and the flat plane of the sporting area below.
